My capability to work on the computer with the several different Adobe programs has improved greatly over the past two years. At this point my greatest strength is my ability to work with In Design and create vectors at a fast pace and arrange efficient and organized posters and prints, accentuated by the final Cognitive Map from my final Graphic Design 1 project from the Fall of 2013. In this area of design I would like to improve and grow by incorporating textures or photography to expand my style and introduce more variation in my vector and graphic work.
I also feel that I know have a better sense of how fonts and graphics react with each other, one overarching thing that I have learned from both typography and graphic design. I am more aware of how it important it is to have a font that enhances graphics rather than over power them and vice versa. Although it is an early work, the Type Specimen book highlights this awareness. That being said I still need to grow more in the area of type in which type is the major element of a composition, such as a book, in order to strengthen my ability to arrange large blocks of text and feel confident that I can do so.
I selected the photography piece to highlight my skills as a photographer and desire to incorporate more into my work. Visually I believe it is a strong piece and adds variation to my portfolio. It showcases how I can work in different areas of design and that I am aware of the importance of composition in my designs and how every element down to the last corner of a work counts. I carry this mentality to my other work to ensure everything I create works together as a whole. Attention to detail is key in order to create an effective design and overall I believe these three pieces emphasize my expertise to do just that.
