The objective of this project was to create an allegorical video of a chosen word through After Effects; I chose decomposition. To be truthful, I was not confident in my skill, since I had no previous experience using After Effects. I shied away from really pushing myself or challenging myself as much as previous assignments based on Illustrator or InDesign. However, I responded by incorporating elements I was comfortable with, such as drawing. By doing so I created a bridge between Art and Graphic Design, using my influences as a visual artist and newly acquired graphic design skills. By “decomposing” my photograph into a pencil illustration, a rough sketch, and finally into a stick figure, I explored the boundaries of the terms’ definition. By using the opacity meter and other tools in After Effects I successfully managed to break down my drawing process, and present it in a video.
