goodbye, visual studies *sad face*

I really enjoyed this class. Even though I was never really an art major, I thought it was good for me to be in this class to help me figure out if this was the right path for me. Unfortunately it was not but I still really enjoyed everything we did in this class. All of the visiting artists and those kinds of presentations were the best. This class really makes me wish that I could actually have a future career in something to do with art, but unfortunately, I was not blessed with very good art skills. *Insert sad face* There isn’t anything I would change about the class. I also like how since it was really centered towards freshmen, we learned more stuff than just about art. I especially liked the time management. That was definitely my favorite. I also loved all of the professors. All in all, I really liked this class and I’m glad I took it!

contemporary artistry

Christopher Wool is my favorite contemporary artist. His work is very out there and some is very foul-mouthed but I like that he doesn’t care. His art makes me feel like no matter what I do, I can still be successful. I also really like canvas quote painting, so that’s another reason. I attached some of my favorites of his artwork. He’s very controversial and I think that if he wasn’t he wouldn’t be as great of an artist. You need to take chances in any career, but I feel like that’s even more so in an artist career path. Joe Meiser

I really enjoyed Mr. Meiser’s presentation. I feel like since he’s still young, it was easy for me to connect with him. I really enjoyed the pieces of his work that he showed us. My favorite was probably the wall of candles. I thought it looked so cool how when the candles melted the wax was dripping down and it was even there after all of the candles were out. I just thought it looked so neat.

Faulty Presentations

I really loved the faculty presentations. I think it was really cool to hear about how all of them started out in their artistic fields and their journeys to get to where they are now. The video project that we watched at the end was extremely neat. I just really liked how they all talked about their college classes and things like that.

Dream Schedule

In all honesty, I would rather not have any schedule and just sleep all day. But who wouldn’t? Unfortunately I have to go outside and go to class. So I would love to have mid morning classes and end in the afternoon. I would NOT have classes at 8 a.m. or past 3 p.m. Also I would make sure I had breaks to eat and maybe nap.

My Time is Spent……

So over the week, I have took a little bit of documentation of how I spend my time. Unfortunately, I’m the typical college student that does a terrible job of managing my time. What I’ve noticed is that I spend a very large amount of my time sleeping/napping. The other majority of my time is spent watching Arrested Development on Netflix. It’s good that I don’t usually have a large amount of homework, but I get so used to that, that when I do have homework, I don’t start doing it until 10 p/m. and I’m up into the wee hours of the morning doing assignments that I could have easily finished during the day. Also, this doesn’t really have to do with time management, but more of noticing more things about my life I never noticed before, but I don’t eat as much as I should. I mainly will eat one meal a day, two if I’m not napping. I liked doing this exercise because it really showed me how I need to do a better job of managing my time.

Senior Portfolios

The senior’s presentations that we saw were very inspiring. It’s cool to see the work that kids not much older than me have done. It’s also neat to hear their thoughts on some of the classes that they’ve taken that are classes we have to take. I really liked seeing their projects though. They look so professional and it’s cool that because of the things they’ve learned here, they’ve become such mature artists. Our school really does have an amazing art and design program.

My Major

So I wasn’t able to attend the pizza party due to the face that I had to go out of town for family reasons, so this post is about my major. Right now my major is graphic design, but unfortunately I found out in my first ever art class that art really isn’t my cup of tea. I have the creative gene, but I really just have no actual artistic ability. I really wish that I could at least draw something more than a stick person, but that’s a definite no. I chose this major though because I figured it would be a good fit for my creative side, but I’m really better with computer type design and not so much the drawing part. So, sadly I’m no longer in that class and I’m most likely going to change my major.

Growing on up

Growing up is such a scary thing. Traveling into the unknown, unprepared. That’s why it’s such a good thing that we are basically able to do anything we want. (almost). Unfortunately, for some, we sometimes hit a bump in the road where we have so many choices that we can’t decide on just one and we get overwhelmed. I thought I wanted to be a graphic designer and that I would be able to handle that, but boy was I wrong. My first design class showed me that I am in no way able to be any type of artist. So at this point, even though I am still a graphic design major, I think my real passion is in teaching. I’m not quite sure which subject, but I think when I become an adult, I really want to teach.
