Critical Mass

For this project we were to make an animation about an story or a concept we wanted to convey so I made my video about the importance of art and partaking in the creation of it. I knew that creating the traditional animation with cartoon figures would be difficult and I did not think I could accomplish an animation that I would be both proud of and have ready in time so that was the main reason for me veering off the traditional route. I also knew that my peers would hear “animation” and do cartoons so I wanted to distance myself and used photographic images.

Plus, I really believe in my concept and did not think it was possible to convey it in a way to be taken seriously with hand-drawn cartoons. I wanted to use all kinds of art (2D vs 3D, street art vs fine art, fashion/wearable art, old art vs new art) to be inclusive.

I also had a concept where A-R-T would be shifting around spelling out different words and found that to be difficult to do. I was capable of moving the letters around but felt like it would be too much movement on screen and just be utterly chaotic so the idea wasn’t fully present.
