For this assignment, we were asked to create a poster in the style of Constructivism. George provided a collection of images and type that we were able to use to deconstruct in Photoshop. Similar to Scales project in Dada style, we were required to create poster that was similar in style to Constructivism using either photos from the internet or from the ones George provided for us. All work was done in Photoshop and the finished product was just the digital copy.
I created a poster with lots of blocked rectangles and triangles. My poster looks as though it fits in to the constructivist style, as I included shapes, angled lines, and lots of red.
I did not follow a specific process, but rather I started creating forms I wanted to use and began playing around with them in Photoshop. I layered them over one another, repeated some objects, and made use of bold red and black colors.
I had to decide what forms I wanted to use, and how I wanted to organize my poster. Once I had my collection of rectangles and triangles, I rearranged them on the page until I was comfortable with where they were in relation to each other.
My design embodies the idea of constructivism because there are lots of hard angles, red text, black text, bold red blocks, lots of angled objects, and black and white photography. My design enhances the content because it makes use of layering in Photoshop and emphasis on the contrast of colors.
