In this gestalt project I used the grass patches on the street of South Congress to convey the ideas involved in Gestalt. For the grouping element I took all my pictures on South Congress. I took pictures of the grass patches that grew between the sidewalk cracks. I thought of these green patches as little ecosystems that grew within the street. To show containment with in my photographs I adjusted where I wanted to set the subject of my photos. Some of the subjects take up either the left or right side of the photo. Then creating a negative and positive space. For repetition I repeated the grass element of the photos. The visual elements in my photos create proximity by the different placements of the green patches in juxtaposition or the street and sidewalk. Continuity is formed through the fluid connection of each photograph. The side walk and street, the green patches of grass, and the color elements involved in each photograph. Closure is created when you observe all the photos together and create an understanding of how they all play off each other. These photos contain elements of gestalt that then answer the question how do you make an image?
