Depending on who you ask, there are anywhere between four and seven foundational pillars of self-care (Beard, 2022; Dragnea, 2023; ISF, 2020; Verma, 2022). What’s more, while two sources may cite the same number of self-care pillars, what comprises these pillars can differ as well (Beard, 2022; Dragnea, 2023; ISF, 2020). While I dove into myth-busting some misconceptions around self-care in my first post, it’s important to reiterate the benefits of self-care once again. Long-term studies undertaken by researchers from Harvard’s T.H. Chan School of Public Health report that in general, while self-care habits that foster a healthy body are a good place to start, the inextricable link between the mind and body must also be considered (Harvard Health, 2023).
However, with so much at times conflicting information containing a litany of recommendations that vary from easy to involved, where should you start your journey into wellness? In the infographic below, I share a simple, 7-day self-care challenge that includes a sampling of activities from multiple pillars to boost start your journey into wellness and leave you feeling recharged and ready to tackle even bigger challenges.
While overall wellness and well-being is comprised of more than can be tackled in seven days, it’s important to remember that the foundation to healthier habits and a healthier you can start with just one week, so I encourage you to give this challenge a try and let me know how you’re feeling. You’re worth it!
