Dr. Peter Beck, Professor of Environmental Science and Policy, and colleague Dr. Michael Wasserman, previously with St. Edward’s and now at Indiana University, have been awarded a $300,000 International Research Experience for Students grant from the National Science Foundation.
Over the next three years, the grant, comparing the influence of economic incentives and land use patterns on the conservation of tropical forests and primates in Costa Rica, Panama, and Uganda, will fund 15 student research projects in the three countries examining how international variation in environmental policies influences land use practices and how these practices affect tropical forest conservation.
