President Martin Signs Global Commitment to Support Pope Francis’s Encyclical on Climate Change

President George Martin, PhD has joined nearly 200 Catholic university presidents worldwide in signing a commitment to support Pope Francis’s recent encyclical on integral ecology, “Laudato Si’: On Care for Our Common Home”. Pope Francis made a powerful call to action in his encyclical, emphasizing a “need for changes of lifestyle, production and consumption” if we are to further prevent the already catastrophic effects of climate change. Higher Education institutions from the US, to Brazil, to the Philippines have signed the commitment, which will be forwarded to Pope Francis as a statement of gratitude and support. This statement not only demonstrates that Catholic institutions of higher education understand the religious and moral requisites presented by Pope Francis’s message, but also reinforces that St. Edward’s University and other institutions are ready to take a stand in protecting our common home. Click here to read the commitment.
