Paid Internship Opportunity: Communications & Marketing Intern with Austin Resource Recovery

Austin Resource Recovery is hiring one full-time communications and marketing intern for the summer. Work for a fun and dynamic City of Austin department helping to promote the City of Austin’s Zero Waste goals. The full-time intern will assist with the Public Information and Marketing team’s recycling and composting campaigns, internal communications, and public outreach and education activities.

Tasks include:
•  Researching, coordinating and attending community outreach & education events
•  Assisting with the Zero Waste Block Leader program
•  Writing newsletter articles, press releases, brochures, fliers, fact sheets, and other materials as needed
•  Developing Facebook and website content, researching and writing blog posts
•  Monitoring media outlets for coverage and conducting media content analysis
•  Assisting with the development and coordination of advertising campaigns
•  Assisting with and possibly leading communications projects
•  Coordinating volunteers and assisting with event planning
•  Various administrative tasks as needed

QUALIFICATIONS
Austin Resource Recovery is looking for a motivated individual with a major in public relations, journalism, marketing, advertising or a related field. The ideal candidate will have strong writing skills across a variety of platforms using AP writing style, be highly motivated, conduct themselves professionally both on the phone, in the office and in public, be well organized, be willing to learn and take direction from experienced professionals, and have an interest in environmental issues and/or public affairs. Experience with Adobe Illustrator, InDesign, Photoshop and Photography a plus. Bilingual applicants are preferred; however, all applicants are welcome.

DETAILS
This position starts at $15.00 / hour. The Summer Internship is a full-time position, working up to 40 hours/week. You will be expected to work 8 hours a day, Monday through Friday, between the hours of 7:00 am and 6:00 p.m. The offices are at 1520 Rutherford Ln., Building 1, Austin, TX 78754. In addition to exposure to a professional and high-speed government communications office, the intern will have the benefit of a goal-setting session, daily supervision from an experienced professional, and a final assessment/feedback session once the internship has concluded. Additionally, all interns receive free admission to City swimming pools, the ability to participate in the City wellness program and other employee perks.
