Suzzanne Gamboa MSEM ’16 has been working with governments at the local and state levels to help implement sustainability initiatives. This past summer, Suzzanne was a Sustainability Intern for the City of El Paso, where she focused on community resilience projects and transportation issues. She also researched the walkability and impact of low parking meter turnover in downtown El Paso. During this time, Suzzanne also obtained her LEED Green Associate Certification. More recently, Suzzanne interned at Texas Parks and Wildlife Department Infrastructure Division where she developed shovel ready projects that could be used at state parks. Some examples of these projects are solar powered charging stations, solar signage and bicycle repair stations. Additionally, she tracked the energy and water usage across several facilities owned by the agency to meet state mandated energy and water reporting requirements. Suzzanne is now working as a Planner for the City of Austin, where she will research and review urban land development proposals for residential and townhomes. She also serves as the Projects and Education Director for Engineers for a Sustainable World. With this experience, Suzzanne hopes to one day form a non-profit to educate undeserved areas about environmental issues in efforts to build more resilient and sustainable communities.
