We’d like to introduce you to one of our Alumni Sustainability Champions: Jaramy LaLonde ’15! While enrolled in the New College earning a Bachelor of Business Administration degree, Jaramy revived the sustainability program, known as the Green Team, at the Four Seasons Hotel in Austin, where she held down a full-time job on top of her courses and volunteer commitments. She took the helm of the Green Team by organizing a zero-waste, closed loop program that eventually reached its 90% diversion rate goal within a year. The Four Seasons Hotel Austin was the first hotel in Texas and one of only a handful in the US to launch such a successful program. Now that she’s graduated from St. Edward’s, Jaramy keeps busy as a Keep Austin Beautiful Lake Cleanup Leader and has even adopted her own section of Lady Bird Lake where she hosts bi-monthly cleanups (you can find out when the next one is and sign up here. She also works with Keep Austin Beautiful as a member of the Rapid Rain Responders, a team of volunteers who use their personal boats to tackle trash that floods into the lake after rainstorms. And if that wasn’t enough, Jaramy has been working with the LCRA/Colorado River Alliance for over 20 years (since its conception) and as a team captain, diver, and boat captain at the Lake Travis Underwater Cleanup with the Pisces Dive Club.
