St. Edward’s Students Help School Garden in Chile

By Peter Beck, PhD, Associate Professor and Coordinator of Environmental Science and Policy Director, PSM in Environmental Management and Sustainability

St. Edward’s students studying in Chile this summer installed a drip irrigation system for the students at Escuela Uruguay school in Valparaiso. The project was part of Dr. Peter Beck’s Environment and Development in Chile course. The system will make maintaining the garden much more efficient as previously water had to be brought up two floors to the roof-top garden. In addition, an automatic timer will enable the garden to continue being watered during periods of vacation where previously the plants would die due to lack of water.
