Facilities Uniforms Get A New Lease On Life

With all the hard work that our Facilities crew does, it’s not surprising that their uniforms wear out over time. On December 9th, 2014, those old uniforms began getting a new lease on life! JOSCO, a locally-owned and operated textile recycling company, picked up between 75-100 pounds of used uniforms and turned them into a variety of dust rags. The Facilities Department expects to replace worn out uniforms once or twice each year, and plans to continue this practice of having them repurposed into dust rags. In 2012, JOSCO recycled over 2.1 million pounds of textiles, which kept waste out of the landfill and put to good use. The company is also working with the City of Austin to recycle all uniforms worn by the various city departments.
