Meet the Next Two St. Edward’s Sustainability Champions: Eliza Worrick and Mark Antonucci

We’d like to introduce you to our next two Sustainability Champions: Eliza Worrick and Mark Antonucci! Every two weeks, we will be revealing two more champions, so please visit the page and keep your eyes out in Horizon for the newest pair. Help us give a big thanks to these eco-friendly folks! And let them inspire you to become more sustainable.

Eliza Worrick, Administrative Coordinator, President’s Office: Both at home and on campus, you work hard to make a sustainable impact and understand that even small deeds make a big difference. You recently invested in a bike so that you can run errands around your neighborhood without using your car, and you hope to use it to commute to work on a regular basis soon. You work to make your home as energy efficient as possible by turning down the thermostat when you leave for work, always washing your clothes in cold water, and going meatless for at least one meal per week. At work, you find ways for the President’s Office to reduce waste by reusing scrap paper, cutting down on plastic waste by introducing a reusable K-cup for the office Keurig machine, and by refilling a single jug of water when needed instead of buying several large gallon containers on a regular basis. You also purchase fewer supplies and supplies that are more environmentally friendly. In the Office of Sustainability, you write countless blogs and e-newsletter announcements, work to keep the sustainability site fresh and relevant, and provide the necessary support to foster sustainability initiatives on campus. Thanks for all your green contributions, Eliza!

Mark Antonucci, Associate Director of Residence Life: After barely a year under your belt as the Associate Director of Residence Life you’ve taken the lead on several projects that have not only improved campus sustainability but have inspired students to do the same. Your Trash to Treasure program at the end of the 2013-2014 school year encouraged students to donate any unwanted goods to St. Vincent de Paul Thrift Shop through bins located around campus. You also worked with the IT department and Facilities to ensure that all dorm printing zones, lounges, and kitchens have recycling bins. Finally, you are leading the campaign to educate students on how their actions impact utility usage, an endeavor that led already to a marked decrease in usage this past academic year. We’re excited to see what you’ve got up your sleeve next year!
