The City of Austin Parks Foundation held It’s My Park Day on March 1st, 2014. This is a yearly event where volunteer projects are planned throughout the city of Austin with over 100 projects city-wide, over 3,000 volunteers, and over 10,000 hours of volunteer labor. This enormous amount of volunteer work is essential to keeping our Austin Parks healthy. It is equivalent to 5 park maintenance employees working full time for a year! Volunteers were treated to free snacks as well as chipotle gift cards for their efforts.
St. Edward’s made a large effort at the nearby Blunn Creek Nature Preserve where students from Residence Life, Green Ambassadors, and Students for Sustainability made an effort to clean up the park. Their activities included improving the landscape of the St. Edward’s drive entrance, picking up trash along the creek, removing invasive species (ligustrum trees in particular), and planting grasses to take their place. Noah Corn, St. Edward’s Apartments Residence Director pictured at left, led a team of Residence Assistants to help out at the Blunn Creek Preserve.
