St. Edward’s University has received a $2,500 grant from Texas-based grocery store chain, H-E-B. The grant will be used to fund this year’s Earth Week activities, including H-E-B gift cards that will be available as prizes throughout Earth Week 2014. For more than 105 years, H-E-B has contributed to worthy causes throughout Texas and Mexico, and has contributed five percent of pre-tax earnings to public and charitable programs since the 1930s. H-E-B also supports initiatives such as the H-E-B Food Bank Assistance Program, their annual Feast of Sharing holiday dinners, and the Spirit of H-E-B trailer that provides on-site relief in areas devastated by natural disasters. H-E-B has also demonstrated a commitment to the environment by implementing a wide variety of sustainable practices inside their stores, through product transportation, building design, and school recycling programs.
