Travel to Ireland and Romania this summer with Bothar and St. Edward’s University! Sustainable Development Course

Join a two-week study-tour to Ireland and Romania in May 2014! See how an Irish NGO, Bóthar, operates – from the inside out! Bóthar specializes in the use of livestock in their aid projects in the developing world. What is Bothar?  Bóthar is a Charity in Ireland that enables families and communities worldwide to overcome hunger and poverty and to restore the environment in a sustainable way. To do this, they specialize in improved livestock production and support related training and community development. Bóthar also educates the public in Ireland about global poverty.

Spend your first week in the Emerald Isle meeting key people and supporters within the organization’s network. Experience the people, the weather and the landscape. Then you can even spend a day fundraising for the charity on the streets of Galway. See first hand how such an organization really works.

Then in week two, travel from Ireland to rural Romania in Eastern Europe to see the benefits of Bóthar’s work in that country. Visit poor communities and the individual people who have changed their lives due to the intervention of Bóthar and the gifts of food-producing livestock such as dairy cows.

If you want to make a difference in your life and in the lives of others, this is the trip for you! This trip will take place in May 2014 after you complete CULF 3331 Sustainable Development on the SEU campus over the spring semester. The trip will start in Ireland where you will meet with Bothar, learn about its mission and meet some of the farmers and dairy cows themselves! Then the journey continues to Romania where you will work with a family or community who will be receiving one of the dairy cows to improve the quality of their lives and the community!
