Reflection: Tunnel 57
To me, this topic has been more interesting then most of the previous articles we have read. I have always been interested in history and enjoyed learning more about how the berlin wall split the country. The building of the tunnel was very intersting. I had never heard of this so it was totally new for me to learn about. I liked the idea of secretly rebelling and going against the government while making a point. To me this is art.
All of his made me think about the JR video we watched in class last Monday. The tunnel was a way to make a point and to express how people felt about the wall. People escape and someone dies, then they write a letter and make the government realize what they are doing. When he talks about avoiding the “cause of the problem” and building a wall instead of facing the problem and splitting up the country he makes a good point. I feel like this relates to the JR video because he forced people to look at the problem and that is what i feel like the tunnel did. The tunnel made the government tear the wall down and face problems head on. JR put up photographs all over the world to build awareness of problems just as the results of the tunnel did.
I had never thought of this perspective and I felt like it made me think differently about how you can change the world. I enjoyed listening to this and felt like I took a lot from it and it made me think about the way that little things can make significant differences.
