This project was used as a way to showcase design in movies, namely using props. We were to create a matchbook or box that could fit seamlessly as a prop in a movie. I used the film, There Will Be Blood, a story about an oil man in the early 1900’s whose life collapses as the movie progresses. My matchbox was designed with an early 20th century aesthetic in mind. I based the text and ornaments off matchbooks of this time. Safety matches, the matches we use today were invented right before this movie takes place and are prevalent throughout the early 1900’s. I used similar colors to old matchbooks as well. Victory not only was a real brand, but it symbolizes the main character’s outlook on life.
