1. Based upon the reading how are priorities set for specific projects? Or in other words, what is it that determines the guidelines for given projects?
The guidelines for a project are determined by the need to answer a question. As Maria Lind states in What If? “[Architecture and design] can function as critical mirrors for a cultural and social state of affairs: one thing can help us to discover something quite different.”
2. How does the artist/ designer approach decision making differently or do they?
The artist/designer approaches decision making differently. In Royal College of Art Discussion with David Blamey, Mathias Augustyniak states that “an ongoing problem for artists today is the question of how their work can be effective beyond the art world.” Artists must figure out how to reach people, so they base their decisions on that while designers already reach people so they only need to make what is useful.
Personal Reflection
1. How do you make decisions? Are they based upon anything substantial? Why or why not?
I make usually make decisions using pros and cons or listening to my gut feelings. I weigh the options and try to figure out which one will have the best outcome. I will also try to think about which one feels like the right choice. These methods aren’t based on anything substantial, I’ve just found that they work most of the time.
2. How do you know when something is “good” or working?
It feels right and I can tell what is good about it.
3. How do you rework projects to make them work?
I look at what I did wrong and avoid doing that again.
