Part 1: Reflection
In the beginning, I was really apprehensive about this course. It’s a freshman seminar, and I’m not a freshman anymore and I was upset that I had to take another freshman class. The first couple classes had lessons about learning styles and time management and how to do your homework, and all of these subjects that I just felt like I was wasting my time with because I’m a well-adjusted upperclassman with a fair amount of leadership positions on campus. I also felt that a lot of the IGST students specifically didn’t quite feel connected to the course material like other students in the class would. There were a few really cool moments that were really meaningful to the IGST majors, but besides that, I feel like some IGST kids felt like it was not a good use of their time. I declared my second major in ARTS in October, so I personally got a lot out of the course since I’m doing both IGST and ARTS and I really appreciate both and I’ve been interested in almost every presentation. The presenters were my favorite part of the course. It was amazing to get to listen to professionals speak about the work they do, and have the opportunity to get their business card. When ART alumni Mia Carameros and Kristin Moore came to present, I was really inspired by their presentations. After the class ended, I was able to talk to Kristin Moore about getting her business card, and she told me to email her if I was interested in an internship, and that is amazing. I’ve always been worried about actually getting a job in art or video game development, and it was a really special moment for me to realize that I had a potential internship opportunity because of a presentation in this class.
