Part 1:

Hollis Hammonds:

I found it really interesting that Hollis uses very similar themes, styles, and concepts in all of her work whether it’s a 2D art or an installation piece. She had a lot of work related around waste and natural disasters. I’ve always struggled with trying to find a meaningful subject matter to create a series of work about.

Alexandra Robinson:

I enjoyed her minimalist approach to art. It’s really cool that at a glance, there might not be much visible meaning, but a lot of them are info-graphics in a way that do have a significant meaning and message. It’s really subtle and nice.

Tammie Rubin:

With Tammie’s work, I really enjoyed listening to her explaining the process of creating her sculptures. I think that the artistic process can be a lot more interesting than the final result, and I’m really looking forward to taking clay and sculpture with Tammie in the future and learning from her. I think that her series of cone shaped sculptures was really fascinating and I love how a lot of her work tells a story.

Joe Vitone:

Since I don’t know anything about photography, it was interesting to hear him talk about different kinds of cameras and photography terminology. I didn’t know what a negative was before he explained in class. His photography was really detailed and seemed to be a really interesting documentation/representation of the household he was photographing.

Bill Kennedy:

I had never seen Bill’s work before, so I was actually really surprised when I saw the images in his presentation. In comparison to Joe’s work being very detailed and straight-forward photography, Bill’s was very abstract. It’s cool to see photography used in very different ways. I liked hearing Bill talk about his process and how he created those images.

Part 2:

My 5 year plan;

2016: I started working as a Resident Assistant at St. Edward’s University in Johnson Hall in the Fall of this year. I’ve declared my 2nd major in art and have created a 4 year plan detailing the courses I will take until I graduate in Spring 2019. Throughout 2016, I’ve been working for a startup indie game development studio called Alt Mind Ctrl that was created by some students and alumni of the IGST major here at St. Edward’s. I’m currently the art director of one of the 2 groups, and the game we’re working on should be published in 2017.

2017: I will continue my work as a resident assistant in the Fall and Spring. The current director of Alt Mind Control will be graduating in Spring 2017, so there will be an opportunity for me to take that leadership position within the company if I apply for it. I feel like this would be a great way for me to use my leadership skills in a way that applies to my major and would look great on a resume. In Fall of 2017, I would really like to join art club so that I can have a dedicated time frame put aside to working on art, networking, and having workshops where I can learn new skills. I will be reaching out to the representative of Art Club that presented in class to see if there are any leadership positions available and how I can get involved. I will be taking 3 classes at ACC in the summer to keep on track with by IGST/ARTS double major.

2018: I will continue my work as a resident assistant in the Fall and Spring; I would hope to have earned the position of senior RA for whatever staff I’m working on at that point, and I would love the opportunity to work for an LLC or special interest group focused on art or interactive technology. I’m not quite certain if or when they will implement that into their LLC program, but I will just have to keep my eye on that and communicate with Tony Farmer about that. I would hope that I would have 2 games that I worked on with Alt Mind Ctrl published at this point, and hopefully the company will be taking off at that point. I would also still like to participate in Art club events. in the summer I will be taking up to 2 classes at ACC to stay on track with my degree plan for IGST/ARTS double major. I will pursue an internship in art or game design at that time.

2019: I will continue my work as a resident assistant through the Spring and graduate from College in May. During that Spring semester, depending on how Alt Mind Ctrl is doing, I will either step away to pursue a position at a more reputable company, or pursue another internship over that summer.

2020: Since I will have 3 years of experience working for the office of residence life on campus, as well as 3 years of experience in game development and (hopefully) a diverse art portfolio and an internship or two, I would have a few options at this point. If Alt Mind Ctrl is doing well as a company and seems to be a source of income, I will continue dedicating myself to that. If I have the opportunity to work as an artist for a game development company, I will pursue that and start working towards my dream of being an Art Director for a large game development company. Since I’ll also have 3 years of experience working for the office of residence life, I could also apply to be an assistant residence directors if there’s a position open on campus, and I could spend 2 or 3 years there pursuing a masters degree, paying off my student debt, and honing my skills as an artist and game developer in my free time, hopefully. I feel that I have a lot of options where I’m at right now, and I’m involved in a variety of things here at St. Edward’s, so I’m confident that everything will work out if I keep applying myself like I do now.
