Part 1

Faith Robbins:

Faith had a really nice presentation! She was very charismatic and fun to listen to. I was really impressed by her work, especially since I just recently completed the photography assignment for ARTS 1311; I know how difficult it can be to take a really nice photo and all of hers look astounding. I can recognize the elements and principles of design in her photography, and it all looks very professional. I hardly know anything about photo equipment, but it was interesting to hear her talking about how she can do well with any type of camera (that’s what it seemed like she was saying, anyways.)  I like that she decided to make a series from her trip studying abroad.

Mary Counts:

Mary was my favorite! She was so amazing, quirky, and down to earth. I loved the focus on extraterrestrial life in her illustration series. I noticed that her stippling looked really rushed in some of her drawings, but they were still very charming. She seems like a very talented graphic designer with a very artistic mind. I think that having the creative perspective and mindset is more important than having all of the skills when you’re trying to make a career out of art.

Diana Martinez:

I’m interested in declaring a second major in Art, so it was interesting seeing some of the work she did. My career goal is to be an art director for a video game company, though, so I feel like the portfolio I’d like to have would be much different than the work she showed in class. It was all very pretty, but very abstract and stylistic, where I’d want to focus more on concept art, character design, and detailed, realistic work. After this presentation, I planned a meeting with my academic advisor to really evaluate my career goal and if a major in Art will help me.

John & Omar

I know John & Omar personally and I’m currently in my second year as an IGST major. I was very involved with the group of students who made the petitions to change the major, and I’m very close to juniors and seniors in the major. I know about the kind of work I’ll be doing in the major and I’m confident that I can make very high quality work. I do know that a few freshman approached me after that presentation they did and told me they were horrified that the major wouldn’t prepare them to do what they’d like to do. I didn’t really appreciate that they didn’t highlight the positive things going on that sophomores and freshman can look forward to as far as the growth and development of this major goes.

Part 2:

http://www.starbucks.com/

I really love that the Starbucks website is so beautiful and simple. It’s not very text- intensive and relies on short blurbs in very graceful fonts. The photography on the site is very nice, but I definitely feel like some things could be higher resolution, though.

https://www.limecrime.com/

I’m completely in love with this website! The color theme and imagery is phenomenal. All of the photos on the site are very high quality and aesthetically appealing when all put together. They really have their image put together well and it’s very memorable.

http://en.cdprojektred.com/

This site provides a lot of information at once and has a lot of interesting components, but it’s not too overwhelming. I like their dedication to a color scheme. As you scroll through their website towards the bottom, you see bold blocks of all of their signature colors. A lot of pertinent information is displayed up front on their home page, which is nice. My one critique would be that the font at the very top of the page is a little too thin for me, personally.

http://na.square-enix.com/us

I’m a huge fan of square enix. I love their content, and I think their site is really nice. I like how every single post on the page is accompanied by a relevant graphic. The blog posts on their sites are very interesting to read. The one glaring flaw on their site is how out of date their music section is though. For example, if you go to concerts, the only one listed is one from Summer 2015.
