What is Social Entrepreneurship?
According to a HubSpot article, social entrepreneurship is “the combination of commerce with social issues” (Tyre, 2019). It looks at how entrepreneurs can utilize their business skills to give back to those in need and their communities. Social entrepreneurship follows the same basic rules as traditional entrepreneurship, except it focuses on how profits can be made with the community in mind (Tyre, 2019).
The former definition of entrepreneurship focuses on the process it takes for someone to cultivate a business idea to implement it (Tyre, 2019). However, many small businesses and startups emerged over the last several years, which changed how entrepreneurism was defined. This sudden spike in small businesses and startups also came with businesspeople interested in using their companies for social good (Tyre,2019).
Why is Social Entrepreneurism Important?
Social entrepreneurs approach the business industry from a different lens. They look at how their business skills can be used to create positive change in the world. With that said, there are a few reasons why social entrepreneurship is important, which includes:
- It gives you a life purpose.
- It helps you to connect with the community.
- It brings out the human side of the business (important to consumers ).
- Network with like-minded individuals
- It allows you to do something positive for the community.
There are many benefits of social entrepreneurism. For starters, a business can showcase their human side and show their customers which causes they believe in. Consumers are always searching for businesses that align with their moral compasses, and social entrepreneurism allows you to put those causes front and center.
Finally, social entrepreneurism gives young people the chance to utilize their business skills towards a cause they’re passionate about. Without passion, young people cannot expect to make it in the business industry. Social entrepreneurship gives young people the chance to make the world a better place while making a decent profit.
A Bit About The Blog
My name is Seriah Sargenton. I’m a Digital Marketer and the blogger behind the Community Entrepreneur. I started this blog because I wanted to find ways to showcase my love for digital marketing, business, and community service. I’ve always enjoyed lending my Communications and Marketing skills to small nonprofits, businesses, and people in need throughout my academic career. My experiences in giving back through my led me to eventually start my own blog, hoping to turn into a small business.
I wanted to share the importance of using our business skills for community service, so I started the Community Entrepreneur. The Community Entrepreneur is a place where young people can learn how to develop entrepreneurship skills to give back to the local communities, otherwise known as social entrepreneurship. It’s a business blog that will showcase the importance of social entrepreneurism and how it can be used in every business model.
