The DEA has warned the public along with law enforcement of the increasing fentanyl overdoses happening nationwide. Opioids that are injected with traces of fentanyl have been the leading cause of overdose deaths. The rise of these opioids has been provoked by an initial addiction to prescription drugs and “when they weren’t enough, they would get into street drugs laced with fentanyl” states Dr. Marcia Ory.  These drugs are manufactured illegally and laced with deathly amounts of fentanyl. The epidemic is impacting many cities specifically, Austin, Texas the home of one of the largest 4-year universities. The Street drugs in this community laced with fentanyl have targeted the younger adults in college.
