Welcome: A Therapist’s Guide to Digital Marketing

Shante Harding | 1/26/2022

In my time as a digital marketing specialist, I have come across many different marketing tactics that can be used online. However, I rarely see advice specifically for mental health professionals in this realm. As someone that manages social media accounts for a mental health service provider, I feel the need to share what I have learned to essentially help make mental health service providers more accessible to the masses. After Covid-19 changed our lives, many people turned to telehealth and the digital realm of care to help them work through the onslaught of emotions that came with the pandemic. “The statistics are alarming, particularly since the coronavirus pandemic struck (Williams, 2022).” It has been a time of great uncertainty, difficulty, and loneliness for a lot of people which lead to an uptick in the number of people searching for mental health support.

Through this blog, I want to share what I have learned during the pandemic to create some of the most effective outcomes for mental health service providers. A lot of the topics will be related to social media and how to best leverage your knowledge there. This will be especially useful if you provide virtual options in your practice. From going live on Instagram to simply posting for Mental Health Awareness Day, I will highlight the things that worked for me and maybe even the things that did not go so well.

Some of the articles we will explore come from Hootesuite, such as The Ultimate Guide to Social Media Live Streaming and 8 Engaging social media content ideas for therapists and counsellors. You can expect to receive not only direction on how to implement various tactics but also how to measure the success of your implementation. Leveraging access to Facebook, Hootesuite, and Google Analytics will largely contribute to your measurements and also help you to make informed digital marketing decisions!
