Laptops, Phones, Tablets, and Audio Recordings in Class

As a courtesy to everyone present in class, all cell phones, and other electronic devices should be disabled during class time. Set your phone to the ‘OFF’ position for the duration of class. In the unusual event that you are expecting an emergency call, consult with me privately beforehand and leave the room to answer your phone. If you are a family caregiver, you may need to have your phone available to you during class; however, please leave it on vibrate.

Most people find it difficult in any setting to avoid the temptation to use laptops/tablets to browse the internet, email, play games, do work for other courses, etc., which can be distracting for those around them. Therefore, the use of laptops and tablets is prohibited during class time, unless you have obtained prior permission from me.

Note: instances where students are using their phones to talk, play games, text, surf the internet, or anything else during class will be documented and negatively factored into their participation grades.

If you would like to use an audio recorder during class, make an appointment with me during the first week of the semester (prior to using the audio recorder in class). Permission to allow recordings in class does not imply the transfer of any copyright in the recording. The recording may not be reproduced or uploaded to the internet (including emails).
