Spring 2015 – QEP TOPIC SELECTION TEAM

  • Topic selection team of staff and faculty was formed (deans appointed representatives from each school)
  • The team explored various themes that had arisen throughout the APG and IFoF processes, as well as looking at trends in liberal arts higher education, in order to identify potential QEP topics.  Always, of course, with a focus on the SEU mission.
  • Among the topics considered were:  LLCs, Information Literacy, and Vocation & Life Planning.
  • Vocation & Life Planning emerged as a theme that was vital to increasing the quality of a St. Edward’s education and was directly aligned with our mission that recognizes learning is a lifelong process and a caring faculty “teach the skills needed to be independent and productive” so students may “understand themselves, clarify their personal values, and recognize their responsibility to the world community.”
  • Hence, our tentative QEP topic:  DEFINING ONE’S VOCATION IN A CHANGING WORLD

For the past several years, St. Edward’s University has been involved in various collaborative processes of reflection and evaluation.  Our Quality Enhancement Plan continues this process:

2014-2015 – INVESTING FOR OUR FUTURE (IFOF) PROCESS

  • Investing for Our Future is a campus-wide, transparent process of evaluation, reallocation and innovation.
  • This collaborative project consisted of nine working groups/teams focused on: advancement, financial affairs, informational technology, marketing & enrollment, academic programs, faculty development, student academic support, student affairs, and institutional support.
  • Over 500 ideas were generated some of which were based on data from EduVentures and Austen Group analyses of SEU academic programs.

2013-2014 – ACADEMIC PLANNING GROUP (APG) PROCESS

  • A comprehensive, collaborative process that included 117 participants (faculty, staff, students)
  • Academic planning groups (APGs) & task forces made recommendations for 9 areas: undergraduate programs, graduate programs, New College, student support services, honors program, signature programs, global initiatives, learning outcomes, faculty development & student research, and academic innovation & new educational approaches.
