Student Learning Outcomes

REVISED (Draft) STUDENT LEARNING OUTCOMES (Summer 2016):

Goal 1: Students will answer, “What contribution do I want to make?”
SLO1a: Students will identify the values and intellectual interests that ignite their passions, in order to articulate their vocation.

SLO1b:  Students will reflect on how the skills they have learned at SEU empower them to pursue their vocation(s).

 

Goal 2: Students will answer, “How am I preparing to make this contribution?”
SLO2: Students will plan a holistic and integrated curricular and co-curricular experience that supports their emerging   vocational interests.

Goal 3: Students will answer, “In what contexts can I make this contribution?”
SLO3: Students will learn through study and application of the many contexts in which their vocation(s) can be practiced, and weigh their career options.

Goal 4: Students will answer, “How do I integrate my liberal arts experience with complex problems faced by our world today?”
SLO4:  Students will engage in a culminating experience in which they apply their skills and values in a controlled context to solve a complex and/or unstructured problem.

their interests and values
significant issues that ignite their passions
their potential contributions in the context of the contributions of others
the interdisciplinary opportunities afforded by a liberal arts education

Goal 2: Students will answer, “How am I preparing to make this contribution?” 

(Develop/articulate)

Students will develop and articulate:
their unique talents and set of skills
resources to adapt to a changing world
potential career options
disciplinary expertise
a holistic and integrated curricular and co-curricular experience
a plan to advance the contribution they want to make

Goal 3: Students will answer, “In what contexts can I make this contribution?”
(Apply)
Students will:
apply their skills and values in multiple contexts
respond and/or adapt effectively to change
solve complex and/or unstructured problems

Goal 4: Students will answer, “What have I learned that enhances my future contributions?”
(Reflect)
Students will reflect on how:
they’ve used their skills in multiple contexts
their skills, interests, and values may have developed
their liberal arts foundation enables them to pursue their contribution
their St. Edward’s experience (curricular and co-curricular) enhances their contribution
