By Natalie Sizemore
I know that I suffocated you long before my hands were around your neck.
I saw the way I made you choke on my burdens as if they were your own.
My lack of confidence made it so you could not breathe
and I felt happy as the oxygen refused to enter your body.
I wanted to feel like I wasn’t alone so I watched as you died.
Your corpse was my ultimate prize,
but it wasn’t until after you were gone
that I realized how much I desired
the warmth of your hand in mine
