Troob Reunion

by Daniel Haverty

The long dreamed of event finally happened, the iconic Austin super group of the eighties, the “True Believers,” have reformed for some SXSW shows and possible events to follow. No one can predict how long the reunion will last, but let’s enjoy that hard-driving edgy captivating sound while we can. Their recent live performance at the KUTX 1A studio was an amazing show; just a few songs but the energy of the band and of the small but very enthusiastic crowd was beyond electric. From the first chords it was evident that the driving sound that was so popular in the eighties hadn’t disappeared, it just went dormant for a while like a volcano. As volcanoes sometimes do, the Troobs (as some loyal fans refer to the True Believers) erupted at the KUTX studios and the fortunate that were there to witness the event and the radio listeners that were tuned in were treated to some serious Austin music, and what better time than at the beginning of SXSW. Javier sang a tune and Alejandro and John Dee also sang, and Denny and Rey provided the throbbing pulse to go along with the well-chosen guitar licks and pulsing rhythm that are the Troobs sound.

For those new to Austin, it isn’t always the wristband shows that are the most remarkable, sometimes you just need to be in the right place at the right time to hear righteous music delivered by very talented and inspired artists. Never fear you still have a chance to catch the Troobs at upcoming shows at the Four Seasons and the Continental Club.

Completely agree about not needing a wrist band! Just need some luck and to know where to hang out 🙂 the markings of a true Austinite.
