Either Way

By Kaitlin Meilert

I can’t tell
if it’s the morning chill

or your name on my lips

that sends my skin
to shiver.

          (I can neither
          sip you up
          nor spit you out—

you cling to me like fresh ink,

          hovering just above
          and beneath
          the surface.)

Either way,
winter is upon me.
