By Natalie Sizemore
I looked down and there it was.
A blue so deep I thought it might be black.
The blue I had been searching for my entire life.
The blue in the essays my art teacher James
would read about to fill up class time.
It was deep and overwhelming,
like the memory of seeing my mom
cry for the first time,
heartbreaking –
but necessary in finding
the humanity of my heroes,
of myself.
I never understood why water
was referenced as a body.
I looked out and saw
something never ending.
I looked at my arm, already
1/5th to death.
Where was my infinity?
