The New Literati student publication is an online project of New College and MLA students at St. Edward’s University. The publication’s mission is to encourage and support creative and non-fiction writing as well as editing, editorial, and publishing skills among students in New College and the MLA program. New Literati is managed by an editorial staff of currently enrolled students that includes a chief editor and one or more assistant editors. The chief editor will be responsible for soliciting submissions, overseeing the selection of materials for publication, and maintaining the web site for the publication. Assistant editors will support the chief editor and be responsible for specific divisions of the publication such as film reviews, essays, memoirs, poetry, fiction, and others. New Literati will have a faculty adviser who confers with the staff and who oversees and assists the operations and continuity of the publication. The faculty adviser will serve on the NewLit advisory board whose purpose is to ensure high quality in the process and the products of publication.
Starting in 2014, submissions will be accepted from all students and alumni of St. Edwards University. In the last two decades, New Literati has served as an avenue for showcasing creativity, and an important platform for emerging writers. In line with its mission, it will continue to publish visual and literary narratives that are experimental and engaging. In 2014, NewLit will keep an eye for stories that merge the chaotic with the serene, that embrace the complexities of modernity and the historical dimensions of contemporary experiences, stories that ask important questions and interrogate what it means to be human. We are, however, open to all aesthetic leanings. Send us the witty, the eccentric, the spontaneous, the bold and urgent, the unboxable, and everything in-between. Email all submissions to submit.new.literati@gmail.com.
New Literati is edited and managed by Lucas Coyne, Kiva Navarro, Sydney Clarkson, Jasmine Kim, and Cassidy Prince. If you are interested in joining the team, contact us at submit.new.literati@gmail.com, or attend our biweekly meetings at 6:30 Thursdays in Ragsdale 319.
