Step back in time and enjoy the beautiful spring weather at Sherwood Forest Faire. Sherwood is a local Renaissance festival located just outside of Elgin in McDade, Texas. It’s a magical setting located on 23 beautiful acres in the piney woods. The festival was started three years ago and now has become a permanent village with 130 shops and food vendors.
Sherwood’s festival is based on Robin Hood and his merry men, but there are all sorts of medieval characters and creatures to be found. There are performers onstage and strolling throughout the grounds. However, many of the attendees also dress in full costume so sometimes it’s hard to tell the visitors apart from the performers. Everyone is very friendly and eager to give directions or pose for pictures. There’s plenty of merriment and wine and beer flowing, along with many food items to choose from.
Some of the amusements visitors can participate in include archery, axe throwing, knife throwing, fish flipping, pony rides, fishing pond, swings and more. There are live music performers throughout the faire and much dancing. There are also magic performances, puppet shows, chess matches, fairy dancers and more. Sherwood also hosts special feasts and wine tastings for an additional price. Tickets are $15 for adults and $8 for children for a day of fun-filled activities. Closing weekend is March 30-31 so don’t miss out!
