This project is one of my favorites projects that I have don so far because it require imagination and observation. It was interesting to look around and see how random things around me can be inspire. Furthermore, I found that interesting how I was looking at things differently while I was doing the assignment. I was looking at things as  if they  kind of typography and each element has to have at least one letter.

Mid Term Essay

I usually spend 3-6 hours working on my assignments outside the class. Which means the average hours per weak is 12-15 hours. It depends on the things that I want to do and if there is anything new that might need to search and watch about it.

Last semester we had a project in Image mythology that we had to use after effect. Honestly, it was like a nightmare for me because I had no ideas how to use the app or how to use the functions probably. When I look back at the final results of that project I can tell how bad I was and how much my skills have been improving. I would probably say that my skills improved due the practice time that I spend after the class. Also, practice assignments that we had in the beginning of the semester were very helpful.
Also, last semester I was straggling doing the basic things in after effect such as, how to set the starts and ends of each moves and how to arrange each moves. Also, correcting or changings things would take long times to do. Now, I feel more comfortable with all theses things. In additional, I have learned many things from the weather project. For instance, now I’m able to do the changes that I want easer than last semester.

In addition, I think I’m pretty sure about the project but I would like to learn more about after effect. I would like to learn how to add audios to my clips. I would like to learn how to work with short clips instead of only working with illustrator files. I have watched many interesting tutorials in YouTube about how to do different things in after effect that I would really like to try them.
I think the effort that I put in my assignments; your feedbacks and my classmates are all play helpful rules in my creating growth. Your feedbacks always help me to pay attention to things that that can make my work look better. Such as, the colors that I should choose, the font that would work better with my designs. Sometimes, I learn more by looking at my classmate’s works.

However, dark places have a negative impact on my energy I always feel like I want to go outside and work on my projects instead of working inside the class. It looks too dark for me, there are no natural lights and the electrical lights are not good enough.

When I work on something and enjoy working on it I do not usually count how many hours I need to spend. However, I think the minimum hours of practice per week is seven hours. In my opinion, in order to create sophisticated work I need to start working on my project early instead of lifting it to the last minute because that stressed me out and I can’t work when I’m stressing out. I usually work on my projects for two-three hours before the class+ two hours during the class time + one-two hours during weekend. This is how I mange my practicing time. Sophisticated work is when you challenge yourself by doing new things. Analyzing the information and turning the information and the numbers into symbols was a challenge for me.

The most meaningful feedbacks I have received about my maps are that I should add more symbols. I should choose the maps color very wisely (the most important part in the map should be darker/ brighter than the other less important part of the map) the map should not look that busy. So, it will look better if I use les strokes around shapes. Last but not least, typing face is an important thing as well in designing maps.

The hardest part was to design the last map ( The ice-cream map) because I was not really sure how the map should look like. Also, I hade an issue with the way that I should design the map to present the information. However, I think the most enjoyable part was analyzing Tom’s bills. It was interesting how we could tell about him and his lifestyle based only on his bills.

Honestly, this semester was a very busy semester for me. So, I had no chance to do any extra work outside of the classes. I was trying to do my best in each class. I wanted to learn every single thing and not miss any classes. I know that need to work hard to catch up with the other students. Also, I need to get an A in my classes to prove to my Saudi adviser that I deserved the other chance.

Last two weeks are the most difficult time of the semester. I have five final projects to do. Which is really stressed me out and unfortunately, that impacted negatively on my health as well because I’m not getting enough time of sleeping or eating well. I know that I should submit this essay yesterday but I have been suffering of Migraine for two days and I could not finish it yesterday.

However, I was grateful to have you as a teacher. I have learned a lot in your class. The most thing that I like in your class is that we have enough space to learn, tray, ask, make mistakes and learning from our mistakes without worrying about the grades. Because the main purpose of the class is to learn not to pass or no pass

 

My purpose in this project was to designed a statues based on one of three stories that we had asked to read. The story that I have chosen to read is called ” Cities & Desire 5 — Zobeide”  it talks about men from different places and nations who had an identical dream. They saw naked women with long hair running at night through an unknown city. All of them lost her but they found each other and decided to build that city.

This is one of the most interesting thing that I have ever watched. I like how he challenges himself and how he comes up with new, crazy and interesting ideas. This video full of motivations. I like when he says “I think if something is done by one person, it can be done by others.” In addition, I actually remember that when I was 13 years old I watched the Opera episode that he talks about it. It was an exacting watching that episode. But, in that time I had no idea about all the challenges that he went through to break the world record.

“As a magician, I try to show things to people that seem impossible. And I think magic, whether I’m holding my breath or shuffling a deck of cards, is pretty simple. It’s practice, it’s training and experimenting.” 

When I started working on the project I focused on what I like and what I think. In the first collage I came up with this idea after I read a short story that talks about a city.The writer describes the city like he talks about a woman. Also, I noticed that in many Arabic books. Arabic writers always talk about cities like if they are women.
In addition, I’m overthinking person and I think a lot when I walk. Usually I like to look at the floor or the road when I think because sometimes I do some silly face impressions and I do not want to other people see me talk to myself ‘^_^
So, I came up with collage2 idea. The building present my though and the shoes presents me walking on the street.

 

 

Memento is a movie that talks about a man who is suffering from short-term memory loss. Also, he uses tattoos and notes to find the man he thinks that killed his wife. In the beginning I found that was kind of difficult to understand the concept. Then, I started getting the idea .However, I always find “Dory”, the blue fish in Nemo, funny and makes me laugh when she forgets thinks. Dory has a short term memory loss as well. Sometimes we might feel like some memories are best to be forgotten. But, it is different with short term memory loos, because I think it is kind of scary thing when you think of yourself having this mental issue.

This video talks more about music than art. But, I think the points that Keith Richards mentions in the beginning of the video are important and it could apply on art as well. He says that the musician needs ” learn the feel and the touch of that string”. Personally, A lot of times I have some ambiguous feeling before I start any project and these feelings always lead me to do whatever I do. It is just a mix between good and motivation feelings. Also,! I agree with him when he says that there are two sides of the story, where the hands present the sides . In guitar you should play with both of your hands. Ans  in art I think there are three sides of the story, your feelings, imagination and hands.

 

The first time I went to South Congress I didn’t have a specific idea about what I want to shoot. So, I started shooting randomly. I took photos for everything I saw, people, sky, trees, flowers, signs, buildings…etc. Later, I found that it was difficult for me to find one theme for all these random photos. So, I narrowed photos from 141 photos to 6 photos to help me focusing on things that I actually like about theses 6 photos. Also, I had to keep in my mind that these 6 photos should meet the requirements for the project. I found that details interested me. So, I decided to take photos for details of roads. In other words, taking photos for cracks on roads.
