Dr. Manuel X. Zamarripa, PhD, LPC-S

Dr. Manuel X. Zamarripa, LPC-S is the director and co-founder of the Institute of Chicana/o Psychology where he conducts community workshops and professional development training for educators and mental health professionals on issues related to Chicanx/Latinx wellness, cultural identity, and mental health from a cultural strengths’ framework. He is also Associate Dean of Counseling at Austin Community College District where he coordinates the delivery of mental health services to the student population. He is a Licensed Professional Counselor and approved supervisor and received his Ph.D. from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in Counseling Psychology, his M.S. from Our Lady of the Lake in Counseling Psychology, and his B.A. from the University of Notre Dame in Psychology.

Program Title: Social Justice is Wellness: Clinically Meaningful Practice

Program Summary:  Social justice components are integral to the concepts of wellness and mental health. Holistic wellness for marginalized populations must include being responsive to negative and oppressive social factors. In this keynote we will discuss practical, meaningful ways to ingrate a culturally responsive, social justice oriented framework into mental health and clinical practice.
