About
Hi! Welcome to The Food Waste Project.
Our goal is to help bring awareness to how much food is wasted and to then help prevent further food loss. Food waste is a broad term, it focuses on the food that is discarded, lost, or uneaten. Food waste occurs throughout processing, production, retailing and consumption. The waste of food is a serious issue. There are many people in the world who go hungry everyday, if people helped to stop wasting so much food, we might be able to help feed more people. Helping to lower the global poverty rates is one of our main goals here at The Food Waste Project.
Companies lose a lot of food through processing and production, edible scraps are discarded for not looking the best, or during the process of creating other food products. Retailing food causes for a major loss because companies discard products once they look slightly older because people refuse to buy items like this. These products are still edible and could be donated to those in need. Lastly, a lot of food is lost in consumption. Whether it is from people being full or just over cooking and letting food go to waste, we need to change our habits.
Many people do not realize how much food they waste each and every day. Over cooking, letting food rot in the fridge, throwing away the “bad parts” of food, we all do things that waste food every day. Here at The Food Waste Project our goal is to help both companies and restaurants lower their food waste, as well as to help individuals to lower their daily amounts of food waste.
Here at The Food Waste Project we aim to discover solutions and provide tips for a lifestyle to help save. We will be posting weekly blog updates about facts of how food waste is a problem, as well as solutions we have seen companies enable to help save more food. Hopefully we can help you to learn about food waste and help you create better habits when it comes to being smarter about food.
