Constructivism

this was a very simple and short project we did to introduce the class to breaking down the photo in Photoshop in layers to show us how to animate it in after effects. Just like the duck rubber duck was our first illustrator exercise this was our Photoshop aftereffects exercise. It took up one class. But taught us how important it is that outlining is vitally important to the success of the end  product.

Symbol Methodology

Symbol Methodology

During this project initially we were asked to choose a one large topic and from their break it into three sections regarding that topic. I chose monsters. From there I broke it into the three sections labeled ficitonal monsters, movie monsters and mythological monsters. Within those three subcategories we were asked to choose three examples representing that subcategory. Then for each example we were asked to make an abstract that way all the ideas can be compiled into one so you don’t overlook certain aspects of the category.  symbol of that example. Gradually through this project we combined’s the three examples within each subcategory to be one abstract symbol. I really enjoyed this project I had never had to create a symbol and such a broken down method successfully. In the end we had three different symbols representing a three subcategories of  our work. I did the process along with the class and do believe I did so successfully. I wanted to represents an abstract symbol yet if you need new the subcategory you would be able to break down certain parts of it so it wasn’t too difficult to comprehend.

Dada

Dada

This project introduced us to the European avante gard art movement Dadaism. Representing experimental and innovative art. Mainly representing the artists take on culture, politics etc. We were asked to choose a theme and then take a bunch of pictures from the internet and make a Dada type collage of the chosen theme. I chose the theme of “youth” and represented it though picture of my own memories of youth.

Element Sequence

Elements Sequence

During the first real project in Image Methodology we were asked to photograph many pictures all representing the different elements of design. The images we took were supposed to connect to each other through the elements of design: form, line, texture, shape, and color. We gradually weeded through all the photos taken to find the final 5 that correctly represented the element of design as well as connecting within the other photos chosen. I found myself taking a lot of photos regarding lines. About 70% of my work. A very streamlined approach. The professor asked me to go back out and photograph a series of photos straying from straight lines as much as possible. I tried by best but we came to the conclusion that it sort of represented my type of design and to go along with what naturally draws me in. It helped me get out of my box yet still be able to realize what is best for me and what aesthetically pleases me. It helped me realize my strengths.

Type Specimen Book

Type Specimen Book

The assignment was to choose one of your favorite fonts. A font with lots to offer the graphic design world. On top of the main objective this also was the first time we were asked to make a book in InDesign. Therefore we were taught the technicalities of that before diving into the font specifics. But aside from that, for me this was easy considering all I ever like to use graphically is Gill Sans Light. We were asked to represent the font in several different ways within this project. We had to create an appealing title page to pull in the audience. Then within the book we had to show: the history of the font and the font designer, a representation of what the font would look like within a long text and all of the options that font offered you. Apart from that, the way we decided to show off our fonts was in our own hands. Obviously looking back on this it isn’t my greatest accomplishment. Still being pretty new in the InDesign program I wanted to push the design to something extreme. Show what I was capable of I suppose. But looking back I wouldn’t have made such an extreme color decision with such extreme bold designs. Although I do like how I showed off the font possibilities within the page numbers.

Bright Lights

Bright LightsThis assignment was to create a poster for the Bright Lights AIGA Awards. We received all the information necessary to be on the poster and from there were given the freedom to go our own route regarding the design aspect. At first we were asked to make 15 or so practice layouts of our own choosing. We then critiqued the top 5 in class and from there gradually cut them down to the final one. During this process I found myself pushing all the text to the ends and trying to fill up as much white space as possible in all of my layouts. There were issues with not having the information be too overwhelming yet still trying to keep my own flare with it. I just figured its an award for design I should create a unique attention grabbing layout. So I kept up with my idea to fill up the entire page. I like the idea of lots of lines, I always have. I like to cut parts of the information up with lines and colors yet keep whats important important and in the forefront. The other final design I had (which I personally preferred) was all in blacks, whites, and greys. I attempted to put color to it but I ruined the design aspect I loved about it. Therefore I had to go with my second choice because color was a must.

Onomatopoeia

Image

Typ1_OnomonopoeiaThe assignment was to choose a dynamic onomatopoeia word and then create a piece of work of that word within a representation of the meaning of the word itself. I chose the word “drip”. I first created 15 different ways to represent the word “drip” by hand. I decided on the top strongest and then created all of them on Illustrator. The top 5 were very different from one another, some were more abstract and others were fairly obvious. In the end, I decided to choose the one that was easiest to grasp. I did fulfill the requirements. At the time I didn’t know much about Illustrator, therefore this piece of work would not represent the kind of work I would do now. Therefore I believe the design is very simple, which follows along the route I decided to go when I took an obvious approach instead of more abstract.
