If you want your students to write about their lives, feelings, and experiences, Patricia Polacco is the author to introduce! Below is a presentation that features Patricia Polacco’s biography, list of published works, her themes and writing techniques, a snippet of her writing, and how to use her books in the classroom.
This is a short clip of Patricia Polacco reading parts of her book The Keeping Quilt.
I absolutely loved this second clip of Patricia Polacco discussing her book The Keeping Quilt; she is so charismatic and funny discussing her family history! This is a great classroom resource; I have seen teachers use this book to inspire their students to each make a patch of their family traditions for a classroom quit of their own. Teachers are always looking for great classroom examples to post in the school hallways, and the one that I have seen was a focal point for parents, students, and school staff to admire and brag about.

I really enjoyed your presentation on Patricia Polacco. I thought it was very interesting that she writes about culture considering that she has 3 of her own. I also liked that it shows students that you don’t have to be the strongest reader in class to be able to write a book. I have not read any of her work, but I am very interested in looking at her work. She seems like a great role model for children.
