(D) In life science, students recognize the interdependence of organisms in the natural world. They understand that all organisms have basic needs that can be satisfied through interactions with living and nonliving things. Students will investigate life cycles of animals and identify likenesses between parents and offspring.
About the Author:
Camilla de la Bedoyere primarily creates and writes non-fiction for children and young adults, including books (more than 200 titles), magazines, comics and curriculum-based learning materials, including material for children with special needs.
Snippet:
“What are you? I am a frog! I am a kind of animal called an amphibian. Amphibians can live in water and on land. We lay eggs and like living in wet places. Where do you live? I live on the ground. My skin is green and brown to help me hide under plants. I stay near water because my skin has to be moist. Q: What is green and slimy and lives at the north pole?”
If you want to find out the answer to that question and learn more about frogs like how far they can jump and what they like to eat, I suggest checking this book out from our library.
Finding a book with great text qualities that connects to science is often way more difficult than it should be. This book proves that there are books out there that posses qualities such as supporting images, readable text and resources for further learning. I think this book would be great to use in the classroom with first graders. It would prove to be exciting and educational at the same time!
What a great find! I had never heard of this book before you shared your snippet in class. I love how interactive and engaging this book is and I can imagine myself using this text in my future classroom. Honestly, I cannot wait to use this book in my classroom. I appreciate the fact that the author was able to successfully deliver key scientific concepts in a visually appealing and kid-friendly manner. It will be perfect for when we are beginning our unit on life cycles and I can only imagine how excited my students would be to learn through the activities and visuals found in this book. I would love to know just how you envision using this text in your classroom. Thanks for sharing.
