J. Patrick Lewis is a beloved children’s author with many published works. He is most known for his creative poems and use of wordplay. Above is a presentation outlining his works, some examples of his poetry, and ways to use his works in the classroom.
While he covers a wide range of topics, his historical and geographical themed works stand out for me. His work invites students to investigate historic events and people threw poetic eyes. Specifically, his poems in A World of Wonders pair well with the Social Studies TEKS in 1st-5th grades relating to geography and world exploration.
Check out this creative video of J. Patrick Lewis reading his poem “Make the Earth Your Companion” from Animal Poetry.
I really enjoyed this presentation on J. Patrick Lewis. This is the first time I have heard of J. Patrick Lewis, but after hearing about him I am interested in checking some of his books out! I think it’s quite unique that he writes poetry about such a wide variety of topics. I also like how he explores different kinds of poetry like acrostic and playing with the shape of the poem. I think J. Patrick Lewis would be a great author to include in a book flood that introduces poetry and all the different forms it can take. Overall, I thought this was a wonderful presentation!

I thought this was a great powerpoint and presentation about J. Patrick Lewis. I had never heard of this author before so you definitely gave me a detailed yet simplistic summary. I thought your slides were very appealing to me and I thought you put some very colorful pictures. I think your presentation will be very useful in the future because I don’t normally explore books about history. I also enjoyed the video you added. I feel you took an extra step that really let us get to know this author. I would of liked to see specific TEKS connections so I know exactly where to look but overall great presentation!
