Sports are culturally celebrated around the world. Team affiliations and fan devotion can unite and divide a nation, town and even family. Within the athletes themselves itself, things are no different.

At first I wanted to focus on variations in style of play from country to country, but I changed angles and want to now focus on what social justice issues international athletes try to promote. Tie in all the relevant stuff with Colin Kaepernick.
The interview direction I take will help get more personal answers from these athletes too.

So I guess my only feedback is if you do only audio, I would make sure everything sounds good and you have some backup recording equipment (like your phone or something). If you are interviewing people with heavy accent you definitely want to make sure they pronounce things well and are somewhat easy to understand. Also with your story, make sure it ties with how they feel about America and playing a sport here and maybe comparing and contrasting with how they would feel about playing in their hometown. If that makes sense. You definitely do not want it to turn into a bashing piece where they hate on America haha… Overall, I am excited to see what it will become and what their views are on sports in America compared to their countries ! 🙂
Raffi, how, specifically, can Amanda make sure that the audio “sounds good”? And what else can she do to help with interviewees who have accents and may be difficult to understand? I applaud you for thinking of these potential challenges, but your guidance is too broad to be truly useful. Next time, dig in and think about specific tips and guidance. You have familiarity with video (and, therefore, audio, to some extent), so doing a bit of research to help Amanda out with some tips wouldn’t be that difficult.

Interesting idea, Amanda, but this is nowhere near a complete draft and, as we’ve discussed, you’ve all had plenty of time to pull this together. This has a ways to go before it’s an advanced journalism story.
