Now that Easter has come and gone, it’s time to start thinking about the next big season coming up…… election season! With May right around the corner, you might be getting a little antics to know what the election on May 4th is all about, and more specifically what’s on the ballot. Well anticipate no more friends, it’s finally time to play What’s on Your Ballot This May with us here at Hill of A Vote!
As a friendly reminder, on Saturday, May 4, 2019 there will be a joint general and special election. If you tell your friends not in the Travis County that you have an election this May, odds are there going to look at you a little confused. However don’t be alarmed, this election is just local, meaning not everyone and everywhere is going to have an election on May 4. Additionally, depending on where you live, you may have a different ballot than your friends! That’s because this election is broken up via election precinct (aka a fancy way to say by where you live).
Although it’s impossible to say what exactly is on the ballot, it’s possible to look at the sample ballot for a good guideline to see what major positions will be open for election. To explain the ballot a little easier, we are going to break it down section by section, aka by city and school district.
City of Lakeway:
For anyone in the City of Lakeway, you will be participating in a general election. On the ballot will be an election to vote for Mayor and council members for the city of Lakeway. When voting for mayor, you can only select one person, however for council members, you have the ability to vote for none, one, two, of three candidates. This means that there is a maximum of three council member spots open, hence why you can cast more than one vote.
Village of Briarcliff:
For those located in the village of Briarcliff, you will also be participating in a general election. In the election, you will vote for the mayor and alderman for the Village of Briarcliff. Per usual, you can only select one name when voting for mayor, however fr Aldermen, you can vote for non, one, or two candidates that are on the ballot.
City of Round Rock:
For the city of Round Rock’s general election, everyone will have the chance to vote for place 2, council and place 6, council on the ballot. These positions are simply council member positions, however they are just numbered to keep better track of positions since many of the council members spots are on different election years.
Village of Webberville:
There is a special election regarding Proposition A for residents in the village of Webberville. In this proposition, you will be voting on ig you are for (in favor) or against the reauthorization of the local sales and use tax at the rate of one-fourth of one percent. If you want to know what the proposition explicitly states, check it out here!
Pfleugerville Independent school district:
