Many bathroom products are designed to be convenient and disposable which means one thing: plastic packaging. Not only is this bad for the environment, but on your wallet too.
The good news is that it is super easy to switch out many of these plastic products for recyclable or reusable options that work just as well! In fact, most of the waste you’ll end up creating can be composted instead of thrown in the garbage.
These are 7 of our favorite zero-waste bathroom swaps:
Bamboo Toothbrushes
Instead of buying plastic toothbrushes over and over, try swapping them for these compostable, bamboo toothbrushes with plant-based bristles. Instead of throwing them away when you’re done, put them in your compost bin!
Cotton Swabs
These cotton swabs are made from bamboo and cotton and are 100% compostable. Normal cotton swabs have a plastic-hybrid applicator that can’t be composted and aren’t good for the environment.
Facial Rounds
Cotton balls and rounds can be composted, but they are often packaged in plastic bags. To eliminate the plastic packaging, try reusable facial rounds. They’re soft, absorbent and can be thrown in the wash when you’re done.
Safety Razor
Safety razors are a great alternative to plastic and disposable razors. The blades are made from stainless steel and can be recycled when you’re done! They take a little getting used to but the tradeoff is worth it.
Floss
Most floss is made from nylon and comes in a plastic container. The best floss alternative is this zero waste dental floss which is packaged in a glass container. It’s compostable and the glass container is refillable!
Compost Bin
Instead of a trash can, keep a small compost bin in your bathroom. Did you know that hair, nail clippings, and tissue can all be composted?
Toothpaste
Instead of buying toothpaste that comes in a plastic tube, try a natural toothpaste that comes in glass packaging that can be recycled. Many natural toothpaste brands are better for your body anyway!
All of these products are easily swapped for your normal bathroom products and will end up saving you money in the long run. Check out the links and see what changes you can make!
