Tips for Sustainable Eating:
Unless you have a garden in your backyard the best way to support the benefits of living sustainably is to eat sustainably. Here are some tips to help you get an idea to get started.
Grow something. It could be in your backyard, in a small pot, on a patio, or a small spot in your yard. Nothing is better than living sustainable than growing your own food. By growing your own food, it will help you understand how you use, purchase and dispose of food.
Shop locally in your town or city. Shopping locally is an easy way to support your community. You would be surprised how many small cute shops or stores sell delicious cheap vegetables and fruit. It also saves you money. When you purchase foods that were grown and sold locally, it cuts down on the amount of fuel needed to drive the food to your local store or market.
Eat seasonally. When possible, focus on foods that are available in season where you live and you’ll be supporting your sustainable lifestyle.
Refill! Liquids are some of the heaviest and complicated items to ship around the country and with it, burns a lot of fossil fuel is needed to ship. Instead of purchasing bottled waters or beverages, use a refillable bottle instead and refill it with water from the sink.
Change your Grocery List. Think shopping in bulk, more processed foods and more plant-based meals. Doing this helps packaging your foods and wastes less energy used to produce certain foods.
Ask for advice. Don’t be afraid to ask for help and advice about what shops are best or maybe what grows well with what. With this information you can start establishing a routine to help you eat sustainable.
