Gifts to Thrift
Written By Iylah M.
As the holiday season approaches, gift guides of all sorts are starting to emerge everywhere online. From guides for boyfriends/girlfriends, the best friend, or the boss, there are so many gift guides available. That being said, most of these gift guides contain luxury, expensive items that not everyone may be able to afford. Forget Fast Fashion wants to approach gift guides more affordably and sustainably. This gift guide contains four ideas on what to thrift to make the perfect gift for anyone!
Books
Although a book may not be the first thing you think about when going gift shopping in the thrift store, many thrift stores receive tons of collectible vintage books that make a great gift. A thrifted book can also be used for coffee table decor or memorabilia. A cookbook for someone who spends a lot of time in the kitchen is also a thoughtful gift always appreciated. One of my favorite gifts ever was a thrifted vintage Chanel book that has been the perfect statement item for my coffee table.
Collectables
Collectables such as mugs, candles, and other miscellaneous items are some of my personal favorite gifts to give and receive. Mugs around the holiday season are always such a hit! Although candles are some of my favorite gifts, most thrift stores dont have candles that are in great condition. To solve that problem and make a creative gift check out this pinterest post on how to make a new candle out of a cute teacup!
Home Decor
Most standard-sized thrift stores will carry a decent selection of home decor. Not saying you need to gift someone the cute couch you saw at Goodwill, but more along the lines of stylish home decor accents. For example, a pretty mirror, picture frames to which you can add photos, or maybe a throw blanket! Clothing Basket
One of the most sentimental things you can give someone is something that shows you were genuinely thinking about them. A clothing basket from the thrift store is where you put together an outfit based on the person you are gifting it to. Wrap up each item individually and put them all in a basket with a handwritten note. This way, they will feel like they’re opening up multiple presents in one. Thrifting for these outfits also gives you tons of creative freedom to walk around the thrift store and put together outfits based on what you find! Adding cute accessories such as beanies, shoes, socks, and other personal touches makes the basket even more special.
Gift-giving can be stressful for many reasons. Whether it be the budget or the idea, everyone feels pressure when looking for the perfect gift. However, these ideas can inspire you to find unique and affordable gifts for this holiday season and any other occasion. The thrift store is a place to get out of your regular bubble and have fun while being creative. So don’t be afraid to get inspired by digging through some rubble to reach that thrift store gold!
