Ms. Wheeler’s Classroom Rules

1.    Bring all relevant materials with you to class.

2.    Be in your seat and ready to work when the bell rings

3.    Treat yourself, others, and the classroom with respect.

4.    Follow directions.

5.    Always try your best and remain positive.


Positive Consequences for following classroom rules

·         Verbal praise from teacher

·         Phone call or note home

·         More material will be covered

·         Increased productivity


Consequences for breaking classroom rules

·         The first violation will result in a verbal warning/reminder of the rule.

·         The second violation will result in a conference between the teacher and the student after school in which an action plan will be written by the student.

·         The third violation will result in a phone call to the student’s parent.

·         The fourth violation will result in a disciplinary referral.

 

Ms. Wheeler’s Classroom Procedures

I.              Beginning of Class

a.    Procedures

                                          i.    Pick up all handouts needed for the day from the table.

                                        ii.    Be in your seat when the bell rings.  If you are late, you must bring a pass.

                                       iii.    Put your homework on your desk.  I will either ask you to pass it to the front row or come around to check it individually.

                                       iv.    Begin working on the assignment on the overhead. 

b.    Consequences

                                          i.    Class time must be made up after school if it is not used properly during the allotted time.

                                        ii.    Completing warm-up assignments increases your daily grade.  Points will not be accrued for days you do not complete the warm-up.

II.            During Instruction

a.    Procedures

                                          i.    If you need to use the restroom, please hold up a bathroom pass for me to sign.

                                        ii.    You should only work on English assignments during class.  Please do not attempt to complete work for other classes during this time.

                                       iii.    Please raise your hand if you have a question or comment.

b.    Consequences

                                          i.    Completing work for other classes during English class with result in points being deducted from your daily grade.

                                        ii.    Consequences for talking or calling out answers follow the same scale as breaking the rules.

III.           Whole Group Discussions

a.    Procedures

                                          i.    Be respectful of others’ opinions.  This means you can disagree but should do so in a friendly manner.

                                        ii.    Be patient while your classmates are speaking.  Do not speak over them or interrupt them.

                                       iii.    Pay attention to what your classmates are saying.

b.    Consequences

                                          i.    Consequences for failing to be courteous during whole group discussions follow the same scale as breaking the rules.

IV.          Small Group Work

a.    Procedures

                                          i.    Listen to instructions before beginning.

                                        ii.    Move into group quickly.  Please do not ask to switch groups if you have been assigned a group.

                                       iii.    Stay on task.

b.    Consequences

                                          i.    Class time not used properly during small group work must be made up after school.

V.           Tests and Quizzes

a.    Procedures

                                          i.    Clear your desk of all materials not relating to the test.

                                        ii.    This is a talking free zone during tests and quizzes.

                                       iii.    When you are finished, place your test in the appropriate basket and begin working on the assignment on the overhead.

b.    Consequences

                                          i.    Consulting outside materials or talking during a test or quiz will result in a zero.

VI.          End of Class

a.    Procedures

                                          i.    Return all classroom materials.

                                        ii.    Return desks to normal positions (unless told otherwise) and clean the area around your desk.

                                       iii.    Turn in all class work before leaving.

                                       iv.    Stay in your seat until the bell rings and you are dismissed. 

b.    Consequences

                                          i.    If you do not follow the end of class procedures during the allotted time, you will be required to stay after class or return at lunch to complete them.

VII.         Absences

a.    If you know you are going to be absent ahead of time, please tell me and pick up the work you will be missing in class.

b.    If you have access to email and are going to be out for an extended amount of time (more than one class period,) please email me for instructions about make-up work.

c.    You may come to my room before school to retrieve your make-up work.  The work can be found in the “Make-Up Work” notebook on my desk.  Please do not use class instructional time to discuss make-up work.
