Artifact I:
Below is a PDF that contains the introductory PowerPoint I used to launch a group project that encouraged collaboration and cooperative problem solving. During the presentation, I emphasized the importance of creating a unique theme that built upon the strengths of each team’s individual styles and techniques. I also began to articulate that in order to create a unified statement, students with varying styles, techniques, and skill levels would need to use design principles and elements (posted around the classroom) such as color, line, balance, etc. to communicate their collective presentation.
Triptych Presentation: Day One
Artifact 2:
Below is another PDF that contains the presentations mentioned in ‘Day Two & Three’ of the associated triptych lesson plan. In Day Two, students are led through an inquiry based discussion of a contemporary triptych created by the artist, James Jean. The students who saw this triptych and the following PowerPoint belonged to an AP art class that was mature enough to discuss the nude human figure with a straight face. I encouraged this behavior by maintaining a professional demeanor and using anatomically correct language.
As a side note: I was fortunate to have access to such a mature class–but were I to teach this same lesson to a lower division course, I would reconsider the images used.
